Visa policy of Syria
In accordance with the law, citizens of all countries require a visa to visit Syria. Visas must be obtained from one of the Syrian diplomatic missions.〔(Syria issues law imposing visas on its visitors )〕 Before 2014, citizens of many Arab countries did not require a visa, and citizens of many former Soviet states were allowed to obtain visas on arrival. However, according to IATA which supplies information provided by national governments the old law giving visa-free access to all citizens or people born in Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen and also female nationals of Morocco and non-resident nationals of Iraq and Somalia and visa on arrival to most citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan is still in place.〔()〕 Visa exemption also applies to holders of diplomatic or service passports of Russia.
